HJ Cooper – Product Range
The H J Copper range of Mains Pressure storage cylinders are manufactured from a high grade corrosion resistant stainless steel Known as duplex.
For the water heating industry stainless steel offers the benefits of excellent corrosion resistance, tolerance of high flow rates, strength, and excellent durability The material’s excellent resistance to corrosion compared to mild steels eliminates the need for a protective coating and sacrificial anode. Stainless steel is also environmentally friendly; and 100 per cent recyclable.
“When compared to other materials that could be used in the production of storage cylinders the benefits of stainless steel become increasingly apparent. Mild steel is utilised on large and small unvented systems manufactured in Europe and the USA. Mild steel requires corrosion protection, usually comprising a glass lining and a sacrificial anode. The anode must be inspected every year for erosion and replaced if necessary, making mild steel storage cylinders high maintenance. Mild steel glass lined cylinders are very heavy – a stainless steel unit is less than half the weight of an equivalent glass-lined unit and is therefore far easier to transport and handle.”
There are four sizes available: 135L 180L 250L 300L
All of these cylinders come in a convenient 550ml diameter
J Cooper hot water cylinders all meet the highest safety and quality standards and are certified to the prestigious NZ4602 Standard. Our cylinders carry the Bureau Veritas Certification Mark (‘S Mark’) to NZ4602
You can have endless solar power with evacuated tube systems
Ecopower is pleased to offer one of Australia’s leading evacuated tube systems. We needed to be sure that this was a product that could handle the extreme weather and environmental conditions here in NZ without fear of poor performance or corrosion issues.
Key Features and Benefits
One of the main components of solar hot water systems is the collector which absorbs the suns radiation. Anyone can make a solar collector that works when it’s hot outside and the sun is directly overhead. But what if the temperature drops outside, or you have a cloudy day? Advances in manufacturing have introduced a new type of solar collector called evacuated tubes.
The design and mechanics of the solar collector is simple:
1. Solar Absorption : Solar radiation is absorbed and converted into heat through a series of toughened glass evacuated tubes. The majority of the heat is held within the tubes.
2. Solar Heat Transfer : Heat pipes conduct the heat from within the evacuated tubes and transfers it to cold water flowing through a compact manifold which is then transferred to a highly insulated water storage tank.
3. Solar Energy Storage : An electronic controller monitors the differential temperature between the collector and the storage tank and controls the operation of the pump.

Evacuated Tube Frames
For flat or low pitched roofs two additional frame mounting options are available for each size of collector: low-pitched frame - this frame allows you to increase the pitch by a range of 9-27 degrees in addition to the angle of the roof; flat roof frame - this frame allows you to increase the pitch by a range of 30 to 50 degrees. The flat roof frame can also be reversed and used to attach the collectors to any wall.
Advantages of Evacuated Solar Hot Water Systems
Superior Heat Output
Cylindrical collector tube is always perpendicular to the sun
Minimum Maintenance
Self cleaning design, with no need for anti-freeze chemicals
High Weather Protection
Tested and approved to -40° C. Perfect for cold climates and coastal areas
Easy Installation
Modular design with comprehensive instructions provided for registered plumbers
Maximum Energy Retention
Vacuum sealed insulating properties of the evacuated tubes retain >92% of the sun’s heat
Environmentally Friendly
Uses low embodied energy materials designed for longevity such as copper, stainless steel and Glass
The Advantages
Superior Heat Output Due to the cylindrical shape of the glass tubes used in our collectors, they are always “facing” the sun. As a result our systems capture much larger amounts of the sun’s energy, especially in the morning and afternoon resulting in superior heat output compared to traditional flat plate panel heaters. Solar water heaters deliver up to 40% more heating energy than a comparably sized flat plate solar collector.
Greater flexibility for orientation of the collector on your roof Due to the greater efficiency of evacuated tube collectors in absorbing the sun’s energy at different angles, the collector can be positioned on roof areas up to 90 degrees away from North (i.e. East or West) with minimal loss in efficiency (less than 10%). You get total versatility in where you position the collectors.
Maximum Energy Retention & In-built Frost Protection The vacuum layer in the tubes works much like a thermos flask, helping retain over 92% of the sun’s energy. This helps protect the system from heat loss which is very important in colder areas prone to frost. Evacuated tubes have been tested down to -40° C and do not use glycol chemicals for protection against freezing.
Highly efficient heat transfer Copper is one of the best known conductors of heat. Inside each evacuated tube is a copper heat pipe that rapidly transfers heat to water circulated water passing through a copper heat transfer manifold packed with top quality rockwool that provides excellent insulation.
No Maintenance Evacuated tubes are naturally self cleaning when it rains due to their cylindrical shape and are less prone to performance loss from coatings of daily pollutants such as dirt and animal waste. In contrast, old technology flat plate collectors are prone to the build up of dirt, mould and debris which reduces the performance of the collector if not regularly cleaned and maintained.
Long Life Expectancy Solar systems use high quality materials for components and are manufactured with advanced production techniques and strict quality control standards. For example we use Cooper hot water cylinders, crafted from premium grade stainless steel and proudly made here in NZ
Easy Installation Solar systems are light and modular and do not need cranes or hoists to install, making them easier for trade professionals to install. The tubes with all the parts assembled and installation of the system is fast and easy. We use trained installers to carry out all our installations.
Environmentally Friendly Solar systems use materials that are designed for longevity such as copper, stainless steel and borosilicate glass.
Certification/Standards The Solar system is suited to both new and existing buildings and has achieved all relevant testing and certifications, including Australian/NZ Standards 2712, 2345-1992, 4020-2002, ISO 9001 and complies with Watermark design regulations
Warranty Our systems are based on a design that is reliable and highly efficient, utilizing the latest evacuated tube technology. The heat pipes are built with high grade copper for rapid heat transfer. The frame is made of “304-2b” stainless steel which provides extra strength in severe weather and is completely rust proof. The systems are ideal for commercial and residential hot water uses as they provide stable solar heating throughout the day thanks to the unique passively tracking solar tubes. We back our systems with a 10 year warranty on major components.
